Ballard Spahr Alert: IRS Finalizes Regulations Disallowing Workarounds for State and Local Taxes
The IRS recently published Final Regulations and Notice 2019-12 to thwart state efforts to circumvent new limits on federal tax deductions for state and local taxes, after several states enacted programs to allow taxpayers effectively to avoid the new $10,000 cap on deductions by individuals for state and local taxes. Under the Final Regulations, states will not be able to work around the state and local tax deduction cap by using charitable funds. Ballard Spahr's Tax Group can assist with questions and provide advice about the Final Regulations, the Notice, the TJCA and other federal, state, and local tax issues.
